Hello!
I’m curled up on my bed, as always, writing to you on (my) Friday afternoon. I’m going to keep this short and sweet and skip my life-in-Korea update because I don’t want to take away from the purpose of this week’s newsletter.
As many of you know, I am a copywriter. I was English major who got lost in book publishing and found her way to freelance copywriting. For 13 years I’ve worked with huge tech companies, small start ups, large start ups, design agencies, freelance designers, publishing companies, retail brands, bloggers, and influencers.
I’ve learned a lot in those 13 years and I want to share it with you. I’ve sat on this material for ages thinking I’d turn it into paid podcast episodes or an e-course but the truth is my heart was not in it and I really don’t care to try to make money off of it. Writing career advice is never universal. But it’s my hope that there’s at least one thing in my article on Medium that encourages you to pursue freelance copywriting, increase your skills, calculate a better rate for yourself, or find better clients.
I tried to make my advice super specific, practical, and clear. Some things are probably things you’ve heard before (update your email signature) other things you may not have (value based pricing). The ideas are not all my own and I credit my sources in the article. All of the tips and guidelines I include have all helped me:
Find clients
Get paid more
Work less and make more
Become a better writer
Spend more time with my kids
Feel confident and successful
May I ask a favor?
If you get something, anything, out of my article, will you please “clap” for it on Medium and share it with friends and family on your socials? I’d love to see it help as many people as possible, especially after a year like 2020 when women were disproportionately affected.
Without further ado, here’s my article with all my copywriting advice and resources based on my 13 years of experience as a freelance copywriter:
Copywriting: What it is, What to Charge, and How to Find Great Clients
